Did you know that pregnant women are prone to nosebleeds? I knew about the heartburn, frequent urination and bruised ribs, but I had no idea about the nosebleeds. According to BabyCenter.com, “pregnancy can cause the blood vessels in your nose to expand, and the increased blood supply [due to pregnancy] puts more pressure on those delicate vessels, causing them to rupture more easily”.
The dry winter we’ve had certainly hasn’t helped! That’s right, I said dry, and I’m referring to Oregon. We went nearly two weeks in January without a single drop of rain. That’s a drought by Oregon standards. We’ll be asking California to send us water this summer, you just watch.
Anyway, the dry winter weather has me drinking water like a camel, going through a tube of lip balm every-other week and using a Q-Tip to coat the inside of my nose with Vaseline each night. All this at the volatile stage in my pregnancy when my belly starts expanding at break-neck speeds and stretch marks are an ever-present threat.
Hydration is a must to stave off the evil stretch mark monster who seeks to destroy beautiful bellies with the eternal markings of what should otherwise be a very beautiful time in a woman’s life. I managed to escape puberty with only a few, faint stretch marks on my hips, and consider myself quite fortunate. While pregnancy remains comparable to puberty in the amount of change a body goes through, I can’t help but feel like this time I won’t be so lucky.
Hence my investment in Tummy Honey by Bella B. Between my two tubes of all natural, super-hydrating formulas I should be able to successfully delay (maybe even prevent!) the appearance of any stretch marks. I couldn’t find these products in town so I ordered them online. They can’t arrive soon enough!
Another fun purchase recently was the first baby items to enter the Bauer household. I couldn’t hold off any longer…so on a recent trip to Target I perused the baby section and bought a few clothing items for our little bundle of joy. I don’t want to buy too much clothing right now, because I know clothing is the most fun gift to purchase so we will probably receive a bunch of clothes as gifts. I’ll do my clothes shopping in month nine after all the showers, so I can “fill in the gaps” in outfits for baby’s first year. But I love the two items I bought! They did, however, bring into harsh reality that I have nowhere to put them. If I don’t have a place for two tiny pieces of baby clothing where am I going to put the baby!? Matt and I have some rearranging to do…
This week Matt and I signed up for our birthing class. We’re hoping for an unmedicated birth and so chose HypnoBirthing® as our birth preparation course. HypnoBirthing is not hypnosis like you would see on a stage or in the media, it’s more of a method of relaxation and meditation to help manage the pain of labor. HypnoBirthing comes very highly recommended from lots of women on PregTastic and I’m excited to learn the various methods and techniques. We start class in two weeks! I’ll let you know how it goes.
