Matt is nesting. Probably not in the way a mom-to-be would nest, but in his own way he is making room in his life and his home for his baby. It’s the most adorable thing ever.
He’s had two additional days off this week because his store is closed for remodel so in addition to relaxing and enjoying the free time for himself, he has also been “puttering with a purpose”.
I’ve come home from work on his days off and found piles of miscellaneous mail and papers now organized, projects that have been sitting half finished now complete, and several items on our long-standing “to do” list started and/or completed. All of this in addition do the normal weekly chores such as laundry, dishes or general cleaning. Best of all, at the end of his day he is smiling and feels accomplished!
One day I came home and things were in that half-finished, “it-has-to-get-worse-before-it-can-get-better” place, and I think he felt guilty so he gave me this big explanation about how “it may not look like it, but he’s preparing for baby” and really being productive.
I could not have cared less for the reasons behind his choice of activities. He gets so few opportunities to relax to the point that he feels compelled to do something for himself. This time off has really been amazing for him. To-do lists are an invisible weight that hangs around in the back of your mind, and it is wonderful to see those weights slowly lifting off of him.
I swear he is more excited than I am for this baby to get here. And while he doesn’t go out of his way to purchase a new onesie every time he takes a trip to Target like I do….he is making sure that there isn’t anything to take his mind off caring for his new baby once she’s here.
I love him so much and could not have picked a better man with which to share my life and start a family.
