We have a beautiful Oregon Ash tree just outside our sliding glass door and for the past six months (as long as we’ve been living here) it has shaded our house and our yard with its huge green leaves. Now, however, it’s Fall, and the crazy wind and rain storm we had last week removed every last leaf from the tree and placed them firmly on our patio and lawn. There were so many leaves that you couldn’t tell where the patio stopped and the grass began!
After the storm we had gorgeous blue skies and zero rain for several days, which turned the leaves from slimy sludge to light, crisp leaves. Since we live in Oregon, rain was in the forecast yet again, and I wanted to clean up the leaves before they turned to glue again. So I took advantage of our last sunny day and took Adelaide outside to play in the backyard while I took care of the leaves.
I really thought she’d just run around and explore the backyard like she usually does, but instead, she was VERY interested in doing what I was doing! She carried a broom around and tried to sweep the leaves, and then when that didn’t work very well she began picking up the leaves and attempting to put them in the yard waste container. She was WAY too short to be able to do that, though, so I found an Adelaide-sized bucket for her to use instead.
It worked fantastically! She filled up the little bucket then I dumped it in the big container. I loved that she wanted to help!
Here is a short video of her filling up her bucket.
