Well folks, we’re officially half-way there! I’m definitely getting bigger…here’s a picture Matt took of me last week:
And for comparison, here is a picture of me at 23 weeks pregnant with Adelaide:
Thanks to the wonders of second-time-motherhood, I’m already 3+ weeks ahead of schedule in the belly size department. LOL! This opinion, however, is held only by myself. Both my loving husband and wonderful midwife say I look great and am measuring right in the normal range for belly size.
Thanks to my enlarging midsection, I’m now starting to discover my physical limitations. Mostly, I’ve noticed them when it comes to doing things with Adelaide (pick her up, restrain a flailing two-year-old-tempertantrum, getting her in and out of the car, etc). Once again, I thought I was going to be superwoman and be completely uninhibited by the physical changes of pregnancy. You’d think I would have learned this lesson the first time!
Other than finding it more difficult to pick up my daughter, or get out of cars/chairs/the couch/etc, I’m feeling really great! Some heartburn and indigestion…but that’s all pretty normal. Nothing some after-dinner TUMS can’t solve!
The ultrasound two weeks ago was the kick-start I’ve been waiting for in this pregnancy. Now that we know we’re having another little girl, my nesting instincts have gone into overdrive!! I’ve been cleaning and organizing every closet in the house to try to make more efficient use of the space we have. Once again, I don’t get to create a nursery for our little-one-on-the-way, because she’ll be in our room for the first 3-4 months and then moving into her big sister’s room. But I’m suuuuper excited to redecorate Adelaide’s room once the girls start sharing.
The biggest project I’ve started, is going through all of Adelaide’s baby clothes. Since Adelaide was born in the summer (May 30) and this little girl will be born in the dead of winter (Dec 6 due date) I’m finding myself a little short on warm newborn and 0-3 month clothes. It’s a real bummer that all of Adelaide’s adorable summer rompers are going to be too small for this little girl to wear!
I’ve already created three giant piles of baby clothes:
1. Clothes that I love that I’m keeping regardless of how impractical they are
2. Clothes that are in great condition for consignment/sale
3. Clothes that are “well loved” so they’re going to Goodwill.
So far I’ve only gone through sizes newborn and 0-3 months. SO MUCH WORK!!!
Lessons learned from clothing our newborn Adelaide:
- Newborns generally don’t like being naked (they get cold) so clothing changes have to be as quick and infrequent as possible.
- Newborns typically hate having clothing put over their heads—scared our little Adelaide every time. Button up clothing is a DREAM!
- Socks never stay on.
- Any clothing that covers tiny feet and tiny hands is wonderful!
Thanks to my lessons learned, my strategy for clothing newborn baby number two is simple: footie pajamas. I will not be spending my money on newborn size outfits (which are adorable, but you really don’t get to enjoy them because newborns are just lumps that are usually swaddled). Instead, when I find an adorable-can’t-live-without-it outfit, I’ll be buying it in size 3-6 or 6-9 month, so I can get more time (and photos!) out of it.
Anyhow, there’s my pregnancy update. My next check-in with the midwife isn’t until the end of August, so I’ll until then I’ll be focusing on eating, sleeping, exercising and growing. Oh the growing…
🙂
I'd love to hear what you think!
