Matt and I are the honored recipients of a piece of Bauer family history—a rocking chair! Matt’s Great Grandmother purchased the rocking chair and used it with her daughter, who then used it to rock Nancy, who then used it to rock Matt, who is now using it to rock our baby girl.
The chair was made by the Tacoma Chair company, made its way to California for several decades, and is now, once again, in the Pacific Northwest. Love it!
The chair was refinished when Nancy owned it (around 1982) but since then it has been passed around to several family members before making the trip to Oregon. It needed a little TLC.
Nancy was nice enough to have the seat redone before giving it to us, but we knew we wanted to do a full refinish on the chair. Since we’re using it primarily in Adelaide’s (aka, “the girls'”) room, we decided we might as well paint it white to match the rest of the decor. Because of the age, details, and amount of work needed, we made the decision to hand the chair over to professionals to complete the work.
This is how the chair left:
And this is how it returned:
It’s BEAUTIFUL!! The finish on it is outstanding and the attention to detail is superb. We had it done by Aladdin Finishers, and they went through and tightened up all of the joints, so our once creaky chair barely makes a sound anymore! Amazing!
Look at how great it looks in Adelaide’s room!
Having the chair finished and back in her room has me lusting over some new crib bedding:
Pottery Barn Kids: Petite Paisley
How adorable is that print!??! I’m not big on crib bumpers, but if I can find this fabric by the yard, I’m absolutely incorporating it into the room.
Oh, and of course, now I’m even more motivated to get a new crib. The crib we’ve been using with Adelaide has been fine, but it’s a hand-me-down from a hand-me-down from a hand-me-down, and it’s really starting to show its age. Plus, it’s really not our style. Here’s my current favorite:
It may be out of our price range though…we’ll see…babies are so expensive!!! Well..more like, babies can be expensive if you want them to sleep in something fancy. LOL!
Anyhow, the rocking chair has been back in Adelaide’s room since Friday, and I don’t know how I ever got along without it! I can’t wait to rock our new little girl in it!!

My Grandmother would be so pleased to know that the rocking chair is cherished and has such a special place in the “girl’s” room!!
It looks so beautiful refinished in white!! Love it!!
