Did you know that no one, and I mean NO ONE, makes or carries Wonder Woman party supplies!? It’s awful! Why not!?? Because the movie hasn’t come out yet? Ugh…my soon-to-be six-year-old will NOT wait until 2017 for a Wonder Woman party…she want’s one THIS year!
Adelaide was introduced to Wonder Woman through some early reader books at the library. To her, Wonder Woman is a girl who is also a superhero, and that’s all she cares about. I’ve tried to show her how she can dress up like Batman or Superman or Spiderman, but she was quick to point out that they all have MAN in their names…she prefers Wonder WOMAN. And why shouldn’t she have a female superhero to admire?! Clearly, lady superheroes are not a priority for the decision makers in our culture, and that makes me feel sad/mad/hurt/furious/disappointed/let down/AARRGGHH!
Since we’re already set on a Wonder Woman party, it’s time to get creative with the decorations. Here’s what I’ve come up with for table covers!
The first, and most difficult step, is determining the size of the center section. Once you figure out how wide you want it to be, you need to make sure to cut out the best section of the star backdrop. For me, that meant centering my measurements on a row of stars.
Measure both the width and length that you need, then cut it out. My table cloths were 54″ x 108″, so my center section ended up 15″ wide, and 112″ long. The goal is to have a little blue, gold and red on the top of each table. The extra length gave me a little overlap at the ends of the table cloth, which I could cut off, creating perfectly even ends.
Once the center section is cut out, lay it on top of the red table cloth. Use a ruler to center it—for me, this meant there was about 19.5″ on either side of the blue stars.
Use small pieces of tape to hold the blue center section in place.
Then, slowly and carefully, lay the gold tape on top of the seam between the blue stars and the red table cloth. The Duck Tape I used was 2″ wide, which gave me plenty of wiggle room for my terrible cut job 😉
Then trim the edges, sit back and enjoy your handiwork!
I needed four table covers, so my total came out to $4.47/each. Themed table covers sell for $4-$7, so I’m pretty ok with this price 😀
Hope this helps you with some Wonder Woman party decor inspiration!
