I have been reluctant to potty train Adelaide…because it seems like an unsurmountable task. But alas, she has been asking me to sit on the potty so much lately, I pretty much couldn’t avoid it any longer.
Today was Adelaide’s first successful go at potty training! She spent the afternoon naked while I chased after her with a roll of paper towels and constant requests to sit on her potty chair (LOL!). Finally, after three accidents, she made it to the potty!!
I doubt that she really made the connection between that urge or pee and then her action of going to sit on her potty, but what was most important was that I got to experience a little success, which will (hopefully!) spur me on to complete another afternoon (day? weekend? week?) of potty training.
Here is Adelaide, 20 minutes after her successful “pee-pee in the potty” moment, enjoying her reward of watching Pingu (her current favorite tv show).
In her diaper again…but still sitting on her potty!
I still feel completely lost and bewildered and overwhelmed by the task of potty training and am IN NEED of any advice, direction or caution from parents who have gone through this before! Please share!

I’ve introduced Benji to the potty. I would have him sit on it before a bath because he would always go on the floor. I reward him immediately with mama being very excited ( dancing is also acceptable) getting to flush his pee down the potty and washing his hands. Now when he has a “stinky” (bm) in his diaper he tells me. And during the diaper change he goes and sits on the potty. Sometimes he pees 🙂 So I’m working on a very slow approach ( plus boys take way longer than girls is what I hear) You can try scheduled trips to the potty during the day. Or there is also a three day naked approach with involves no diapers or pull ups. Ive heard of both of these working, but it is a process. Just prepare for when new sissy gets here. Addie will probably digress in her potty training or trainedness. But rewards can be anything. One of my friends here rewards her little girl with toilet paper at the end. With Benji it’s flushing for sure. See what she finds most interesting about going potty and that can be a reward. Though I also hear jelly beans and m&ms work too 🙂 good luck!!

Little sister’s arrival has been one of those reasons in the back of my head preventing me from potty training her…but I think it will probably be harder after little sis is here…*sigh* Thank you for your ideas and encouragement!!
