Day 7: My dream wedding.
The funny thing about weddings, is that no one ever gets everything they want, exactly how they want it. For one thing, it’s two people’s wedding (there’s a bride AND a groom!). And then you have to deal with a budget and time constraints and parents desires and…you get the picture.
My dream wedding was and probably still would be this:
Location: An estate on a country hilltop in the south of France, surrounded by vinyards.
When: At sunset in September. I want fall colors in the foliage, while maintaining relatively warm and dry weather. The ceremony would take place at sunset to be immediately followed by a reception.
Light hors d’œuvres, lots of wine and a fabulous dessert assortment would be served and guests would be serenaded by a a small classical band.
Sounds like fun, huh!?
While, sadly, this fantasy was not feasible for my actual wedding, I did manage to achieve a similar feeling while staying within my budget!
My wedding was at the Julia Morgan House in Sacramento, CA. This is an estate owned by CSUS, and made available for events. It was built in the early 1920’s by one of the first major female architects, Juilia Morgan.
The ceremony and reception were both at this location in the fall (October) at sunset. Instead of hors d’œuvres and dessert we had a full buffet. Turns out it’s more expensive to have tiny food than a big spread (LAME!). And we ran out of money before we could decide on a band or a DJ, so we just used an iPod.
My wedding was, by no means, perfect, but it was a spectacular night and the beginning of a WONDERFUL life with my amazing husband!
